What is Filler?

Fillers are gel-like substances that can be injected into the skin to improve the appearance of fine or deep skin wrinkles, to fill and correct deep nasolabial folds, or to shape the lips. The result is an increase in the smoothness of the facial skin, the elimination of age wrinkles and a younger facial appearance.
Most fillers replace the lost components of the skin, which are collagen, hyaluronic acid and elastin, which are very necessary for the regeneration and normal functioning of the skin.

Filler products are suitable for use in people of different age groups, but it is important that the perfect candidates have a certain type and amount of fillers and should also be healthy. Fillers can be used to soften wrinkle lines and reshape the facial contours of people aged 30 to 60, but there are some exceptions.

For example, it is not recommended to use fillers in people who are under 18 years old, because their face has not yet reached maximum growth. At the same time, elderly patients, especially those over 70, may need a more sensitive and less invasive treatment than traditional fillers to avoid any negative side effects.

In general, fillers are suitable for all those who wish to improve their appearance by giving the face a fresher and renewed appearance. Before undergoing the procedure, candidates should discuss with their doctor to decide if fillers are the right solution for them.

The effect of fillers can vary from one product to another, but generally, their effect lasts an average of 6-18 months. This depends on the type of fillers used, the area of the body where the product is applied, and the patient's metabolism.

Hyaluronic acid-based fillers, such as Juvederm or Restylane, are very popular and have an average effective period of 6-12 months. Some older filler products, which are often used in deep areas of the face, can have a lasting effect for more than a year.

However, it is important to emphasize the fact that the effect of fillers is not eternal and will gradually disappear over time. After the effect of the product wears off, patients may require various re-applications to keep their appearance fresh and renewed.

Always consult your doctor to get specific recommendations for your treatment and, if you decide to do fillers, understand that the effects of the product will be temporary and you must plan regular procedures to maintain the desired results.

The appearance of pain during the application of the Filler product may be normal for some people, especially in sensitive areas of the body such as the face or nose. However, if the pain is very strong and continues for a long time, you should consult an aesthetic specialist to make sure that you do not have any allergic reaction to the product. If you have any concerns about this, please contact your doctor or an authorized specialist for fillers for more information and specific advice.

Restylane®, Juvedérm®, Volbella® and Belotero® are gels made from hyaluronic acid, a natural substance in the skin. They are clear gels and effectively fill in lines and wrinkles on the skin, giving you a more youthful appearance. Individual results may vary.

Dr. Erjon also uses them to restore and add volume to areas like the lips and cheeks. Detailed understanding of Dr. Facial anatomy spray ensures you achieve natural results without looking overdone. Restylane®, Juvedérm® and Belotero® treatments last from 4 to 6 months. Juvedérm Voluma® for the midriff and cheeks and Juvedérm Volbella® for the lips last 12 – 18 months. Hyaluronic acid fillers are extremely safe because hyaluronic acid is a substance found naturally in the skin. Allergic reactions and other side effects are very rare. Tell your doctor if you have any allergies to bacterial proteins. Individual results may vary.

Calcium hydroxylapatite is a substance found naturally in bones. This dermal filler is white and denser, making it a more desirable option for areas where more volume correction is needed. It is a white paste and therefore not a good option for use on fine lines and wrinkles because it is more likely to be visible. Radiesse® lasts longer than hyaluronic acid, usually about 9 months. Individual results may vary.

Sculptra® is FDA approved to stimulate natural collagen growth, restore facial volume and improve the appearance of wrinkles and lines over time. Dr. Erjoni injects Sculptra® into the tissue under the skin to stimulate the development of new collagen. Over a period of time, the body regenerates collagen, which helps restore the fullness of the face. The number of treatments will vary depending on the amount of volume desired, but in general, the average is 3 treatments, each done 6-8 weeks apart. Results can last more than 2 years. Individual results may vary.

Bellafill is the only dermal filler that stimulates long-term collagen growth to help maintain your youthful appearance for up to 5 years. The tiny, polymethyl methacrylate (PMMA) microspheres of Bellafill are suspended within a smooth collagen gel base. Once injected, the collagen gel immediately reduces the appearance of smile lines. Over time, your body uses the microspheres in Bellafill to create a "scaffold" upon which your own natural collagen can develop. This collagen forms a foundation that adds volume to wrinkles, reducing their appearance – and giving you natural-looking results that feel soft and smooth for up to 5 years. Individual results may vary.

Dermal filler injections are quick and convenient. After administering an anesthetic to the area, Dr. Erjon will carefully fill in the wrinkles and lines on the face, using small hypodermic needles. The entire procedure rarely takes more than an hour and is usually much shorter. Side effects are very rare. Patients may experience mild redness or swelling in the treated area immediately after the procedure. Individual results may vary.

The swelling usually goes away the next day. There is usually little or no bruising, but if present, it usually fades within a few days. The main risk is bruising, which depends in part on the filler used, the area being treated and the patient's tendency to bruise. Individual results may vary.
