How is a hair transplant done?

A hair transplant is a surgical procedure that moves hair follicles from a donor area, typically the back or sides of the scalp, to areas with thinning or no hair. It involves two main techniques: FUE (Follicular Unit Extraction), where individual follicles are carefully extracted and transplanted, and DHI (Direct Hair Implantation), which uses a specialized tool to directly implant follicles into the recipient area. The procedure is performed under local anesthesia and is designed to create natural-looking, permanent results.

FUE

FUE (Follicular Unit Extraction) is a minimally invasive hair transplant technique where individual hair follicles are extracted from the donor area (typically the back or sides of the scalp) using a micro-punch tool. These follicles are then carefully transplanted into the recipient area with precision to create a natural hairline and density. The procedure leaves tiny, dot-like scars that are virtually undetectable and allows for faster recovery compared to traditional methods. FUE is ideal for achieving natural-looking results with minimal discomfort.

DHI

DHI (Direct Hair Implantation) is an advanced hair transplant method that involves extracting individual hair follicles from the donor area and directly implanting them into the recipient area using a specialized tool called a Choi Implanter Pen. This technique allows for precise control over the depth, angle, and direction of the implanted follicles, ensuring natural and dense results. Unlike other methods, DHI eliminates the need to create incisions or channels beforehand, reducing trauma to the scalp and promoting faster recovery.

Healing Stages After Hair Transplantation

The healing process after a hair transplant occurs in distinct stages. In the first few days, patients may experience mild swelling, redness, and the formation of small scabs around the transplanted follicles, which protect the grafts as they begin to heal. By the end of the first week, the scabs typically start falling off naturally, revealing the new grafts. Around 2-3 weeks post-procedure, some transplanted hairs may shed, a normal part of the growth cycle known as “shock loss.” New hair growth usually begins after 3-4 months, gradually improving in density and appearance. Full results can typically be seen within 12-18 months, as the transplanted hair matures and blends naturally with the existing hair.
